Because Talking is a Criminal Offense

Seriously, I think my one boss (Yes, the one who called me into the office to say I had spoken in a disrespectful tone) has serious issues. She freaks out whenever she catches two employees talking on the floor. Even if one or both are doing something at the same time.

No, I don't like going into a store and not being able to get someone's attentions b/c the employees are too busy chit-chatting with eachother to wait on me. But if I'm just browsing, I don't care if two employees who are stocking are holding a conversation.

Though some of my fellow employees and I never go beyond the good-work relationship level, and we'd never hang out outside of work, I've also made really good friends at this job and at previous ones. As it is, the store policy is to avoid having two people at lunch on the same time, which limits our interaction anyway. I think not wanting us to talk to one another is being a little extreme. But this is two incidents over the last two weeks:

Last week, two of the girls were doing "recovery" (shop talk for organizing an area in the store, and returning merchandise to it that was returned, left in another area, ect.) near my area. No customers were around (It was less than an hour before close, and the only customers were in another area of the store), so the three of us start talking. They're both from other countries originally, and I've lived all over the US. I was listing where I lived, and we all had a laugh when one girl thought I'd said Columbia meaning the country instead of the city. And they were both discussing how customers and even other employees always want to know how to say their name in "their language". And how funny it was to them because it really wasn't any different. So we're having a good laugh, when my boss suddenly is like - "Can you three do something that doesn't involve hanging around talking to eachother?"

The one girl tells her - we're doing recovery. And she replies that it just looks like we're chatting, and she thought she'd "Gotten rid of all my talkers. Don't tell me my good workers are all going to turn into talkers now." And goes on to mention that she'd caught the other two girls talking earlier. The other girl brings up that that was when they were wondering whether a customer was shoplifting, so that's different. Our boss tells her she always seems to have a good excuse for why they're talking. I'm bewildered, but not we all spread out to please her.

Now, nighttime is pretty much the only time I'm allowed to step outside my jewelry counter. But, I have to stay within sight of it and go back into it any time a customer is looking - even if they assure me they're just browsing. So going up front to get items customers have decided not to buy or returned to put back into my "area" is not something I'm supposed to do until the store closes. But on slow nights the girls will bring me my stuff. Which is really nice of them, and makes clean-up faster. (And assures we all get out of the store sooner - which I'm sure is their ulterior motive. LOL) So the one girl from earlier brings me an umbrella (Yes, that's in my area. LOL). But it's a large umbrella, and at first I only see small ones and sometimes some accessories are considered men's and go over on the men's part of the store. So I ask her "Does this go here?" And we pause and look, and spot them and I'm like. "There it is, nevermind."

Suddenly my boss is like - are you two talking again? And she's like - I'm giving her her recovery, don't jump on us. And she's all - you don't have to talk to do that. ?!?

So then, this week, I'm closing again. My area is done, so one of the other girls asks if I can help with her area (It's less than half an hour to close and once again all customers are elsewhere). I say sure, and we start fixing it up. (Her area is behind my area, so it's easy to keep an eye on my counter). A third girl comes up (Mind you, this is a different set then the first two the previous week) She asks which one of us gets wallets. And I say - I do, because that's my area. Then I realize she's holding belts. And I went, why did you say wallets? And she's like...did I say wallets? And the second girl says - yes. And we all laugh.

Suddenly our boss is like - are you three chatting over there? And I'm like - no, she was giving us our recovery. And my boss is all - well it looks more like you're all standing around in a clump than doing anything. I mean, c'mon, we weren't even really chatting then. Just laughing over a mistake which was completely work-related. Is it just me? Or does she have issues?
My boss is being transferred! I just worked my last shift with her. Huzzah!

Unfortunately this isn't the one who called me into the office to complain about me being disrespectful. However, it is the one who told an employee that they don't have to give us lunches when she complained about getting them an hour into an eight hour shift.

But, hey, she's the second manager to switch stores in the past year. (One of our assistant managers was switched a couple months ago. Unfortunately, the new guy is no replacement for the guy who left - who was pretty much the only nice manager) So maybe the other manager will get switched in the next few months. I can always hope. LOL

Especially since my boss's latest thing to do at the morning meeting is threaten us all with being fired. Because the store isn't perfect. Plant pots are being mistaken for dishware. OMG. The horror. Clearly this is a cause for firing someone, because this couldn't possibly have been an honest mistake. Just someone too lazy to do their job.

Which explains why "Mom" saw her kicking merchandise out of her way. Which isn't lazy at all, nor does it cost the store money on damages. And in the middle of the day even if I slept 9 hours the previous night. Well, I was told I might have narcolepsy. Further testing still waiting to be done on that. Because it also seems that I have a low white blood cell count. Now I have to see a hematologist. I was supposed to see him today, but he was held up at the hospital. Now I have to reschedule my appointment.

My nerves are very frazzled, and this doesn't help.
For the main body of my FL - Hey, I'm still alive!

For those of you who actually are interested in my pathetic life, click on the cut below.

Because my boss is a bitch. And, yes, Scuzzi effing swears. Even if nobody at work believes it.

Seriously, I am so sick of the way my boss schedules my lunch. I work 9:30-5 almost every day. And for nearly every day of the last two months, my "lunch" has been at 10:15 or 10:30. That's ridiculous. Sure, I can skip breakfast and eat then. But I'm still starving by the time it hits 5! Let's see - why? Oh, right, because I just worked 5 hours and 45 minutes without a meal! I'm not getting lunch. I'm getting brunch and dinner. 2 meals a day. There's a healthy lifestyle.

And having one or both of my breaks half an hour before and/or after my lunch sucks! The point is to have the breaks spilt the day so you get, oh right - a break! Not to get them "out of the way", because it's inconveniant for me to have a break in the afternoon!

And, no, I don't think going to the bathroom on clock is "time fraud". Not when you managers do it all the effing time!

And, yes, we're allowed to get a drink of water. We should be allowed water at our stations since you don't want us to leave them for up to 3-4 hours at a time!

And her telling the employee who bitched about the lunch and break schedules that she should be grateful to get them at all because there's no law that says you have to give them to her? WTF?? What century do you live in??? Cuz I'm pretty sure slavery was abolished!

Okay, rant over - for now.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Meimei. And she loved to decorate cakes. One day, a co-worker of Meimei's asked if she would make her wedding cake. Meimei excitedly agreed.

("Wheeee!")

So Meimei set about making the cake. The first cake was too soft. It fell apart!

("Oh noz!")

So Meimei decided to try another recipe.
Saboten Con Report

I got to indulge my inner geekdom this past weekend at Saboten Con!

I had a blast! I managed to finish my Kendappa costume. (Um...though I did have to stay up until 3:30 am the day of the con to do it...) I wish I'd managed to make her harp, though because everyone kept asking me if I was Belldandy. *sigh*

I also entered the AMV contest, and entered my BJD Didi into the BJD Fashion Show. I didn't win anything, but Didi did! LOL More on that here.

Likes:

The AMV Contest: Yah, the 40 or so minute wait before sucked, but as soon as things got up and running it ran really smoothly. There were also alot of good videos! I had a hard time choosing who to vote for! On top of that, the crowd was really reactive! They laughed, cheered, and were just a great audience for those of us with videos in the contest.

Cosplay: I don't know what it was, but it really felt like everyone went all out this con. There were so many great costumes! It makes me sad because I didn't have a camera! ;-;

Masquerade: See above for costumes. Seriously, there were such great costumes in the Masquerade! And (from what I could see of them - see dislikes below for more info) the skits were cool too! And if the AMV Contest had a great audience, then the Masquerade had a superb one! You guys were so excited and welcoming! It was all a contestant could ask for in an audience! Plus we all got a nifty participation prize. That so rocked! Plus - CUTIEPOP! 'Nuf said.

BJD Fashion Show: I didn't make it to a second day at the con - but my BJD Didi did! LOL From what I've seen and heard, this event was cool. I wish I could have come with my boy and met everyone. But, he did pretty good on his own - he even won 2nd place! Thank-you everyone who voted for him!

The Feel: I don't know how else to put it, but Saboten just had this awesome feeling to it. Everyone was so friendly - attendees, con staff, hotel staff, ect. You could just start chatting with random people, and they'd just chat back like old friends. It was fantastic! I've been to cons in which even just asking a fellow cosplayer for a picture is uncomfortable because they make you feel like an annoyance. I never experienced anything like that here. It was wonderful!

Being a Volunteer: This was also my first time as a volunteer, and admittedly I didn't do as much as others. I helped Yukiko at her Kimono Panel. I made props for the BJD Fashion Show. Otherwise I did a little gofering for people. I fetched drinks, and helped move tables. LOL I enjoyed doing it alot though. I think I'd like to volunteer again. Maybe even try to run an event.

Dislikes:

The Hotel: Too small! It got really crowded, especially in artist alley/around the panel rooms. Sometimes it was hard to get through. And it seemed sometimes it would clog the path whenever someone stopped someone for a picture. I also don't think I'd want to stay there. Windows on the inside? That seemed a little weird.

How the Masquerade was Run: Though I enjoyed being in the Masquerade, I didn't like how it was run. We only met one of the judges, which I didn't like. And we weren't told right away that we had to talk to people about music. I actually left and came back before I was told about it. Then there was alot of confusion about where we were supposed to meet before the Masq. My seat during the Masq was right in front of the side curtains - so I was trying to see through them to see the skits. At one point I stood up to go stand at the side so I could watch, and was quickly asked to sit back down by the staff. If I couldn't actually watch the Masq, I'd rather have been in a seperate room where I'd have felt free to move around and get water and such. I did get offered water by a staffmember during halftime - which I was really grateful for! I also feel the halftime went on way too long. Several contestants were saying they had to leave, and were wondering how long before the prizes were announced.

Okay, I'll post pics of me in my Kendappa costume later, as well as a link to my AMV.

Even if it's Jewelry again, and not Culinary, I'm not overly disappointed right now. Not with it being full time, and a pretty relaxed place to work. Not being very stressful is definately a good thing. And I've gotten several compliments on how I set up the cases. So that's awesome.

I don't have much else to report right now. I haven't gotten things worked out with my cake classes yet. I hope to get that taken care of soon - this weekend maybe? I'll have to see.

In case you missed out and have no idea what this post is about

01 Rebirth of Mothra 3
02 Guys and Dolls
03 Troll
04 Singing in the Rain
05 Krull
06 The Lady In White
07 Godzilla King of Monsters
08 Solar Babies
09 Flower Drum Song
10 Tenchi Muyo in Love
11 Dinotopia
12 Watcher in the Woods
13 Venus Wars
14 Nightmare Before Christmas
15 Jumonji

01 Rebirth of Mothra 3 -
Because I love Kaiju films. Seriously, I could have made this list 15 Kaiju films and have admitted to loving every one of them. Of the "newer" Kaiju films I've seen, I think only Godzilla: 2000 and Godzilla: Final Wars compares with the Rebirth of Mothra series. And Number 3 is my favorite. Yes, it's campy, yes, it's cheesy, yes, it has a lame human plotline. But that's part of the fun of Kaiju, dammit!

02 Guys and Dolls -
If you don't know I love musicals and are on my friend's list, either you've been hiding under a rock or I need to post more. On second thought, don't answer which one. Choosing which musicals to include was really hard. Guys and Dolls is basically one of my absolute favorites of all time. Which is pretty funny considering it was one of the few I didn't grow up with. I was in my late teens when I caught it on TV and got hooked instantly. C'mon, Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando - how can you go wrong?

03 Troll -
Okay, if you don't know I'm a Fantasy and Sci-Fi geek, you have been hiding under a rock. Singing Mushrooms, a Witch with attitude, and evil fairies. What's not to love about Troll? I know, you're probably thinking it's Fantasy Plotline 27 or whatever - Kid into Fantasy and Sci-Fi meets good magic user and has to save sister from evil being. But Troll was one of the originals when it came to that plotline. Seriously, I could watch this movie a hundred times. I probably have.

04 Singing in the Rain -
Strangely enough, this was another musical I didn't grow up on, but is definately one of my favorite ones. The songs are great, Donald O'Connor is hilarious, and it's plotline is pretty original as far as musicals go. Did I mention I can do a mean Lina Lamont imitation?

05 Krull -
I don't care what the reviews you read online say, if you're a fantasy fan and haven't seen this movie - you're missing out. It's got a fabulous plot, the actors play their characters perfectly, and it has to be one of the most quotable movies I know!

06 The Lady In White -
One of the few movies on my shelf you'll find that you have to go to the horror section to find. But it's basically gore-free, and the spooky moments are actually few and far between. It's the way the movie mixes the paranormal with what is essentially a murder mystery that makes me love it. And the way they actor portrays the murderer's transformation from his everyday nice side to the violent killer is nothing short of amazing.

07 Godzilla King of Monsters -
When it comes to Kaiju films, you have to go back to the beginning atleast once! Or twice. Or maybe a couple dozen times. Godzilla remains the ultimate Kaiju, and though everyone has their favorites - and least favorites - of films that followed, the original is still one of the best. It's a movie I could never grow tired of watching.

08 Solar Babies -
Okay, I won't say that Solar Babies isn't a little campy, or full of sci-fi cliches. But it's also got a rather original plotline no one has ever tried to duplicate, and characters you actually do get easily attatched to. Including a glowing sentient ball of light, that somehow makes you feel for it without doing anything but glow and make sound effects.

09 Flower Drum Song -
Another musical. Why do I like Flower Drum Song? In this case, I have an easy answer. Because it's fun! If you don't enjoy watching this movie, you need to lighten up!

10 Tenchi Muyo in Love -
Tenchi was one of the first animes I ever liked. So if I was going to include anime, I had to include it's first movie. Truthfully, I adore Tenchi Muyo in Love - just like the series it's the perfect mix of comedy and drama. And includes one my favorite Tenchi lines ever by Washu. "Only one thing stands between you and oblivion...the most brilliant mind in the galaxy - you're looking at her!" ^0^

11 Dinotopia -
Of the most recent movies to touch the fantasy/sci-fi genre, this is my favorite. The fact that dinosaurs are involved does not hurt either. LOL It's generally very well acted for a modern movie, and actually manages not to drag too often despite being so long. (It was a Mini-series more than a movie, I guess. But I still say it counts.) The plot is interesting, and even if there are a few plotholes, all and all it ties everything up nicely in the end.

12 Watcher in the Woods -
Strangely enough, I don't think you find Watcher in the Woods in the horror section. Which is funny, because you'll probably get scared watching it more often than The Lady in White. One again you have that wonderful mix of paranormal and mystery. Though this time the mystery revolves around a disappearance rather than a murder. The story itself is just really compelling, and a few of the moments still make you start no matter how many times you watch it. All and all, this is probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

13 Venus Wars -
This is literally the first anime I ever fell in love with. In the distant past when the sci-fi channels played the good stuff, and had a yearly Anime event. Venus Wars is just cool. Take my word for it. ^-^

14 Nightmare Before Christmas -
Yah, I know, I have a morbid sense of humor. C'mon, what's there not to like about the Nightmare Before Christmas? It's morbidly funny, just plain fun to watch, and has really, really, really catchy music.

15 Jumonji -
Once again, ignore the reviews you read online - trust me. Though it has plenty of plotholes, you really can't find yourself caring. The movie is simply hilarious! And, once again, it's so immensely quotable. Seriously, if you hang around with my friends and I, you are bound to hear the quote - "Oh, yah, they're beautiful alright." - sooner or later when referencing overgrown plants.

But I've been a bit busy, so it took me awhile to put together a montage. Finally did it though.

Rules!

1. Pick fifteen random films or films you
like or all the movies you have ever seen
ever if they total less than fifteen.

2. Find images for these films. Google is
very curious about your taste in films.

3. Make a numbered montage of these images
in your editing program of choice. If this
is something other than Photoshop, that's
fine -- this is a don't ask, don't tell meme.

4. It was extremely hard to find pictures for this of the movies I wanted. Half the pictures I did find were on review sites dissing them. Hmph. Whatever. I love them anyhoo.

I'm back in regular retail again, nothing food related - which is a drag in a way. But it pays alot better than my work at the ice cream store did, and it's a job. Besides, I had some good times as a WMI too. I'm really happy at the idea of teaching again) I've updated the Edible Arts section of my website! I've still got lots of pictures to add, but I've added a bunch already, and revamped the look to something simpler. I might exchange the words for banners, since it might be a little too simple. Still, I'm mainly pleased at having added so many new pictures, so, please go take a look!

Edible Arts
